Leeds United to lose another top Elland Road figure after exit of Gretar Steinsson emerges

Leeds United are set to lose a second high-level figure after Gretar Steinsson leaves his role as Jordan Miles is also moving on, according to TEAMtalk.

The outlet reported via their website on 8 November the that Whites’ head of recruitment is set to follow the technical director out after The Athletic reported earlier in the day of Steinsson moving into a new role with the 49ers’ global football group.

Consultant Nick Hammond and head of football operations Adam Underwood are expected to take on more prominent roles as a result.

While Steinsson is not expected to be directly replaced it is currently unknown whether Miles, who only joined from Aberdeen in February, will have a successor.

Jordan Miles to depart as head of Leeds United recruitment

The Whites put together a new recruitment set up on the fly after the takeover was finally green lit in the wake of relegation.

And for the most part they have done a fairly solid job, particularly in comparison to the chaotic final throws of Victor Orta’s operation in the Premier League.

Transforming a midfield that was left entirely empty in the first summer with the additions of Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara without any of the trio flopping was particularly strong, before making a profit after one season on the Finn and bringing in the impressive Ao Tanaka.

It is hard to point to any signings under the current set up who have really failed outside of Djed Spence’s loan from Tottenham last season, even if it is too early to say on some from last summer, and Karl Darlow hasn’t been used much.

Questions can certainly be asked about the timing of the activity ahead of this season, as the club seemingly waited until star men left thanks to release clauses being activated before a mad dash to replace them late on.

Farke was left unhappy not to be provided with a number 10 to take Georginio Rutter’s place, but on the whole those who have been recruited have been positives.

So the current restructuring will need to ensure that standards don’t slip, with the upcoming January window the final chance to alter the options for a vital promotion at the second attempt.
