Leeds United to listen to offers for Ian Poveda, loan-to-buy possible

Leeds United are prepared to listen to loan offers for winger Ian Poveda this summer that could include an option to buy, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The 22-year-old spent the 2021-22 campaign at Blackburn Rovers but injury thwarted his game time as he made just 10 Championship appearances, scoring one goal.

The England youth international is not with Jesse Marsch’s senior squad on their pre-season tour of Australia as Victor Orta attempts to find a solution to his future.

While the initial thought was that the Whites were keen for him to stay beyond the 2022-23 season, they are now seemingly ready to let go of Poveda and a loan-to-buy deal is not out of the question.

MLS and La Liga 2 clubs have already expressed an interest in the attacker who may not have a place in Marsch’s squad with a host of wingers already more established at the club and the new signing of Luis Sinisterra from Feyenoord.

Not good enough

Leeds United can’t afford mediocrity anymore after just about scraping to safety at the end of last season so players like Poveda can’t have a future at Elland Road long-term.

Perhaps there is a player in there somewhere just waiting to be unleashed but he hasn’t shown any signs of emerging so if a good offer comes in from abroad, then Victor Orta has to accept it.

He’s played 18 times in the league for Leeds since he joined from Manchester City and not scored a single goal which is simply not good enough for an attacking player.

That kind of return clearly does not encourage Marsch so he has made his mind up and the best for Leeds and Poveda right now is for him to move on for good.

He came to Yorkshire with some high regard and potential but injuries have not helped him and the Whites can’t keep waiting for him to eventually turn up because he may never do so.

In other Leeds United news, one of Orta’s summer targets has received extremely high praise from a Sky Sports pundit who compared him to a Premier League legend.
