Leeds United to announce Diogo Monteiro in coming hours as Weston McKennie signs and Diego Llorente leaves
Diogo Monteiro’s move to Leeds United is expected to be officially announced within the “coming hours” according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.
The teenage defender arrives from Servette as an immediate replacement for Roma-bound Diego Llorente as the Whites continue with their extensive overhaul of the squad this month.
Portuguese Monteiro, 18, has already completed his medical [Fabrizio Romano, 30 January] and is now due to be formally unveiled as a Leeds United player imminently, with Weston McKennie’s arrival from Juventus also now completed [Romano] and now official.
The Yorkshire Evening Post reported on Monday evening: “Leeds also intend to formalise the signing of 18-year-old right-sided centre-back Diogo Monteiro in the coming hours.”
Activity
With Max Wober, Georginio Rutter and McKennie on board as likely starters and the struggling Llorente replaced with a new developing youngster, things are looking very positive.

Nothing is won on paper though so the new arrivals will need to adapt to the league and the squad but the early signs from the first two are good.
A year ago the entire window went past without any significant arrivals so this January has been a complete about face from the hierarchy.
And while the activity is coming thick and fast to close the window it seems more like Leeds United are taking advantage of opportunities as they come up rather than desperately chasing answers like they were on 1 September.
That is all well and good of course but it is now down to the players themselves and Jesse Marsch to put things into practice on the pitch.
Currently the relegation zone is still far too close for comfort, and with this money spent everyone at Elland Road will be expecting to see that situation change quickly.
In other Leeds United news, the club are now in line to bank a surprise profit as technicalities of one deal are revealed.
