Leeds United tipped to complete ‘huge coup’ to hire Brendan Rodgers amid Phil Hay update

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United

Paul Robinson believes Brendan Rodgers would be a “huge coup” for Leeds United as the Whites look to fill their managerial vacancy.

The Athletic’s Phil Hay revealed (via Twitter, 13 June) that the board “really want” the former Leicester boss to replace Sam Allardyce at Elland Road.

The 50-year-old has also been linked with the vacant position at Celtic, however, Robinson doesn’t believe a move to Leeds is out of the realm of possibility.

“No, not at all [out of the realms of possibility], Leeds and Celtic are two massive clubs,” Robinson exclusively told MOT Leeds News.

“Two huge clubs in European football with massive fanbases. Rodgers obviously has connections at Celtic due to his time there before. He left under a cloud.

“Whether he will be excepted back there will split fan opinion. The easy thing for a manager to do is to win games. You’ll soon win the crowd over.

“If he goes to Celtic he will have to win a few people over whereas if he goes to Leeds United it would be a huge coup.

“He gets a tough wrap for the way he left Leicester. Let’s not forget he had two top-six finishes and an FA Cup. You look at what he did at Celtic and he was one slip away from winning the Premier League with Liverpool.

“He’s a fantastic manager. I certainly wouldn’t be disappointed and I think it would be a huge coup if Leeds United could pull that off. However, I think the draw of Celtic might be too big for him.”

In other Leeds United news, a BBC pundit has been left stunned as Phil Hay has dropped a fresh update on who the Whites are considering bringing in as manager this summer.
