Leeds United tipped for promotion next season as Daniel Farke sack verdict shared

Dean Ashton has urged Leeds United to stick with Daniel Farke if they hope to get promoted to the Premier League next season.

Farke’s position has been called into question by some following the Whites’ play-off final loss to Southampton on Sunday (26 May).

However, the German has experience of getting out of the division and is the right man for the job in the view of Sky Sports pundit Ashton.

Speaking on the Premier League All Access podcast [27 May], Ashton said: “I think if they keep him they’ll get promoted next season.

“His style and knowledge will get them promoted if they back him. Leeds are still a huge football club and players want to play at Elland Road.

“You don’t get rid of somebody who gets you 90 points. He was very unfortunate and is capable of going and doing it again.”

Daniel Farke the right man for Leeds United

As Ashton points out, Leeds racked up 90 points and yet that still – somehow – was not enough to go up automatically.

The play-offs provided a second chance, but Southampton managed to do a number on Leeds in the final and there is no huge shame in that.

While it is massively frustrating to have missed out, no rash decisions can be made right now. Ultimately, who is better out there than Farke?

There have been some fanciful names bandied about, but Farke has experience of earning promotion and has a year at Elland Road under his belt.

A number of star players will move on this summer, but even then Leeds will still have one of – if not the – strongest squads anywhere in the division next term.

If Farke makes a slow start, then there will be a question to be asked over his future. Right now, though, he deserves to have another go at it.
