Leeds United: Tim Sherwood shares new verdict live on Sky Sports as Ipswich lose v Cardiff

Tim Sherwood shared his verdict live on air about the chances of Leeds United claiming promotion to the Premier League, with Ipswich Town losing to Cardiff City on Saturday (9 March).

The Tractor Boys had the chance to leapfrog the Whites and Leicester City at the top of the Championship table but succumbed to two added-time goals from the Bluebirds in a 2-1 loss.

Having claimed all three points over Sheffield Wednesday on Friday 8 March, Leeds are just two points behind league leaders Leicester and have taken a significant step towards promotion.

Speaking live via Sky Sports News on Saturday (9 March, 1:20pm), Sherwood said: “I think the current top two will go up. I hope Leeds do, certainly, because of their crowd. They are just magnificent at Elland Road, so well supported.

“It was one of my favourite grounds to go and play at. I just think that with the home advantage and the support they take home and away, they will have enough to do more over Ipswich and Southampton.”

Can Leeds United claim promotion back to the Premier League?

Leeds’ future seems to be falling into their own hands, especially after Ipswich slipped on the Cardiff banana peel on Saturday.

For the Foxes it could be a tough ask to come up against an in-form Hull City side. A loss for Enzo Maresca’s men would hand Leeds the advantage.

Of course, with his Championship accolades at Norwich City, Daniel Farke has been in this position before and will be confident in his abilities to take Leeds to the finish line.

The German has done incredibly well so far after being appointed at Elland Road last summer, turning the stadium into a fortress, yet to lose a home league match.

The ambition of bouncing back up to the Premier League is in the Whites’ sights. It is completely in their control now, with Ipswich failing to claim three points in the Welsh capital, but it could come down to the wire.
