Leeds United: Tim Sherwood delivers Andrea Radrizzani and 49ers manager verdict after Sam Allardyce appointment

Tim Sherwood believes Sam Allardyce stands a great chance of securing the full-time Leeds United manager job if he beats the drop and Andrea Radrizzani remains at the club.

Allardyce, 68, replaced Javi Gracia in the Elland Road hot seat on Wednesday (3 May) for the final four games of the Premier League season, with the Whites currently only sitting outside the relegation zone on goal difference.

Speaking on the No Tippy Tippy Football Podcast (4 May), Sherwood admitted that the 49ers will look for a “sexy manager” when they inevitably take majority control of Leeds United, but the former England manager could yet prove his worth to the current ownership.

“If he does keep them up, if it goes well will they consider him long-term?” Sherwood was asked.

“If they stayed with the current owners, they’d have a great chance because he would have saved them a lot of money, and perhaps they would have looked and said that these experienced guys still know what they’re doing,” Sherwood replied.

“But they won’t. They will have new owners.

“The Americans are coming in and they will want a sexy manager in there, I’m not saying it’s right, but they can’t help themselves.”

Leeds United

Surely not

Although Allardyce has proven himself as a brilliant manager over the years, he is no more than a firefighter in this instance.

Leeds United have thrown a massive Hail Mary in siding with the Englishman until the end of the season, but truth be told, they had few alternative options.

Moving forward, Allardyce will certainly be greatly appreciated if he keeps the club in the Premier League, but it is hard to imagine him with a long-term future at Elland Road.

If the club manage to secure their Premier League status, the 49ers takeover will be all but confirmed, and as soon as that is complete, Sherwood is bang on in his assessment that Allardyce will be out of the door.

The 49ers will want to arrive in West Yorkshire with a bang and make a statement with their first manager.

Unfortunately for Big Sam, this could well send him back to the managerial wilderness – although the reported £3million bonus for avoiding relegation will provide some solace.
