Leeds United team news v Aston Villa: Crysencio Summerville out for month, Patrick Bamford to return

Jesse Marsch has confirmed Leeds United will be without four players for their Premier League clash against Aston Villa on Friday evening.

Crysencio Summerville is set to be out for a month after suffering an injury in the 2-2 FA Cup third round draw against Cardiff City (The Athletic’s Phil Hay, 12 January).

Patrick Bamford will be in the squad at Villa Park, but Luis Sinisterra, Stuart Dallas and Archie Gray will all be unavailable for the fixture.

It’s certainly time for this group of players starting putting in more consistent performances. Too often this season Marsch’s side have started fast before falling off dramatically in the latter stages of games.

The American has been backed heavily since his arrival and is about to complete the signing of Hoffenheim forward Georginio Rutter for a club-record fee. If the Whites’ form doesn’t turn around, all fingers will be pointing at Marsch for failing to get the best out of this group of players.

Villa are on a decent run of form since the arrival of Unai Emery and will be a tough test for Leeds. There simply has to be an improvement on the performance in South Wales. Leeds were all over the place defensively and failed to test Cardiff as much as they should have.

With the bottom four teams all playing each other over the weekend, a win could propel the Whites out of relegation trouble for the time being.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites are keen on signing this Wolves player in January.
