Leeds United team bus arrives at Sunderland, journalist shares who’s arrived

Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling appear to be back in the Leeds United squad to play against Sunderland, according to Beren Cross.

Writing via his personal X account ahead of kick-off at the Stadium of Light on Tuesday (12 December), the LeedsLive journalist reported that Mateo Joseph and Joe Gelhardt also arrived on the team bus.

Bamford, 30, and Ayling, 32, were both missing at Blackburn at the weekend but seem to be back in Daniel Farke’s matchday squad for the Championship tie with the Black Cats.

Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Joe Donnohue added that Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto and Djed Spence were also with the squad.

He added a video of the team bus at the Stadium of Light.

More options

Let’s face it, Bamford and Ayling are old news.

Archie Gray and Djed Spence should be above Ayling in the right-back pecking order while Bamford is either injured, ill or missing golden opportunities to score goals.

Neither should be starting but it’s good for Farke to have them on the bench.

Bamford has to take a chance one of these days and it’s better to have him as an option than not have anyone.

We’d rather see Gelhardt and Joseph get chances ahead of the one-time England international but it’s good to have that experience in the dressing room.

And the same goes with Ayling.

Leeds United

If we need an extra body in the defence, his experience could come in handy to maybe see out a victory.

We’ve got no issue with them being among the matchday squad but please, Farke. Do not start them.

In other Leeds United news, these two forwards – one of whom is in the squad – could be sold in January if a replacement is found.
