Leeds United target Martin Terrier unlikely to seal Elland Road transfer after major setback
Leeds United are now unlikely to pursue the services of Rennes attacker Martin Terrier after news emerged of a serious injury.
It’s understood that the 25-year-old will not only miss the rest of the 2022/23 season, but may also not be able be available for the start of the next campaign.
This certainly will put all clubs away from possibly pursuing his services in January or the summer, and especially Leeds, who did appear close to joining them at one point.
Via Twitter, Get French Football News, wrote, “Rennes winger Martin Terrier (25) is set for an 8-month absence after suffering a cruciate ligament & meniscus injury to his right knee.”
90min reported on Monday 01 November that Leeds were among a host of Premier League clubs to scout Terrier in recent weeks ahead of January.
However, it seems unlikely that anyone would even want to take a punt on him in the summer as well, given the recuperation time after such a long-term injury.
Victor Orta, who has been criticised in the past for not bringing in a striker, will see this as a devastating blow, particularly if the French striker was at the top of their January wishlist.
This should be the reason why the club do not sign another striker this month as it’ll almost guarantee them getting sucked into yet another relegation battle.
It remains to be seen who ends up at Elland Road eventually, but Terrier’s chance to move to Yorkshire may have already gone.
