Leeds United target John Swift could be available for cut-price January deal

Reading midfielder and Leeds United target John Swift could be available for a cut-price deal in January, according to LeedsLive.

The 26-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season and thus far, he does not appear keen to sign a new deal.

This could pave the way for Leeds to make a January switch as they have been linked with a move for a central midfielder.

The report read, “The 26-year-old’s current deal at the Madejski Stadium is set to expire at the end of this season, and there has been no indication that he is interested in penning a new one.

“That could mean that Swift is available for a cut-price deal in January, as Reading look to avoid losing him for nothing in the summer and given their financial issues in recent months, that could force their hand.”

Good news

Not only are Reading cash-strapped but they’re also facing the real possibility of relegation.

Dropping down to League One is going to be harsh for the club and that would almost certainly see most of their star players, including Swift, leaving.

Rather than having him leave for nothing, they could cash in on his services once the January transfer window opens.

Leeds have been eyeing an attacking mid for the last two years but have still failed in their quests to sign one.

Swift presents an incredible opportunity for them to enter the January window and he would walk into the playing eleven, given the number of injuries and the lack of form.

Huddersfield Town’s Lewis O’Brien has also been linked, but Swift is much cheaper and has been described as “outstanding”.

If we were Victor Orta, signing Swift would be our priority in January.
