Leeds United talks to appoint Marcelo Bielsa again in last two weeks – Phil Hay

Marcelo Bielsa was recently made aware of Leeds United talks to potentially reappoint him if the club were relegated, according to Phil Hay.

Sam Allardyce is currently in the dugout at Elland Road, having taken over from the sacked Javi Gacia earlier this month.

But with the Whites in real danger of being relegated from the Premier League, talks were held regarding the possibility of Bielsa returning to the club.

“Over the past fortnight, Marcelo Bielsa was made aware that him returning to Leeds United if the club were relegated was being discussed as a possibility,” Hay posted on Twitter.

“But he has a soft spot for Uruguay and that job appealed to him from the start.”

Leeds legend

Bielsa is, of course, a Leeds legend for what he helped the Whites achieve, with his name still a major point of discussion around Elland Road since the club’s return to the Premier League.

It is unsurprising then to hear his name being echoed around the stadium once more as the club flirt with relegation back to the Championship.

But the rumours of a Bielsa return were swiftly put to bed when he was announced as the Uruguay manager earlier this month.

But given his affinity with the club and its passionate fanbase, it definitely wouldn’t be a surprise to see the Argentine return to West Yorkshire at some point in the future.

Obviously the majority of Leeds fans will be wishing him well in his new post, but certain supporters may secretly hope that it doesn’t work out and that he then gives it another go in the Elland Road dugout.

In other Leeds United news, one journalist believes it would be a “stunning development” at this point if Cody Drameh stayed at the club after being denied first-team opportunities.
