Leeds United talks held to hire Stuart Webber as Norwich City exit development emerges

Leeds United held talks with Norwich City Sporting Director Stuart Webber, according to PA journalist Nick Mashiter.

The Whites are in need of a sporting director following the exit of Victor Orta earlier this year, with the Spaniard leaving alongside Javi Gracia.

And Webber is of interest to the West Yorkshire outfit, with the sporting director “set to leave” the Canaries, according to the official Norwich website.

“Interesting noises about changes at Norwich,” Mashiter posted on Twitter. “Would be no surprise as the sporting director spoke to Leeds a number of weeks ago and has been seeking a new challenge.

“Whether it happens, I genuinely don’t know, there’s a bit of conflicting information, but he certainly spoke to Leeds. One to watch.”

Leeds are obviously in the market for players this summer, but first on their list in this area should be the recruitment of a sporting director.

The Whites must be careful and take their time in order to appoint the right person for this challenging and important role, but they also know that they need to work quickly ahead of the new campaign.

Webber would definitely be a great option, with the 39-year-old boasting plenty of experience in various roles, including a Directory of Recruitment role at Premier League giants Liverpool.

But such experience also means that Webber will more than likely have other options going forward, with Leeds now forced to try and persuade him to come to Elland Road, if indeed that is their ambition.

There is a lot to do behind the scenes at Leeds this summer ahead of a huge Championship campaign, and they would be getting off to a fine start by bringing in someone like Webber to help oversee their recruitment.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites have been linked to a struggling industry as David Beckham ditches £5m-a-year agreement.
