Injured Leeds talent teases return with two-word Instagram message
Leeds United under-23s forward Sam Greenwood has hit the ground running at Thorp Arch since arriving from Arsenal this summer.
The Whites talent scored a number of goals in the Premier League 2 and has formed a deadly partnership with fellow signing Joe Gelhardt.
That form saw Greenwood pick up the Premier League 2 Player of the Month, the highlight after his hat-trick in the win at Sunderland.
Greenwood was hit with a hammer blow last month though and had to undergo surgery on an ankle problem.
The 18-year-old has teased his imminent return though, sharing an update on his personal Instagram account over the weekend at Thorp Arch.
“Nearly there,” he wrote on social media.
This is brilliant news for Mark Jackson and the under-23s, who haven’t seen their form dip since one of their star players was sidelined.
Leeds under-23s are currently sitting second in the league, as they romped to yet another victory against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Newcastle next
The under-23s travel to Newcastle on Friday afternoon and that could be where we see Greenwood return to action.
His Instagram post suggests that the 18-year-old is back out on the training pitch at Thorp Arch, and was most likely hard at work while his teammates were beating Palace.
It is brilliant news to have Greenwood back, with his early-season form likely to continue. Not only has he been on fire for the Whites, but he also shined on international duty with England.
Greenwood is tenacious at the best of times, and he will be raring to go on Friday if given that chance by Jackson.
