Leeds United takeover news: 49ers ‘green light’ update emerges as Daniel Farke announced as Elland Road manager

Leeds United are “hopeful” that the 49ers takeover will be officially ratified by the EFL in “the coming days” after Daniel Farke was announced as manager, the Daily Mail reports.

The club had been attempting to wait until the process was given the green light by the league before announcing the German but with training starting Wednesday (5 July) they were forced to give up on that plan.

Former Norwich and Borussia Monchengladbach boss Farke was unveiled on Tuesday a full 32 days after it was announced that Sam Allardyce would be leaving after relegation.

He is therefore technically the appointment of former owner Andrea Radrizzani, who officially remains in charge of the until his buy-out by the 49ers is waved through, but there is hope the final transition could now be imminent.

The Mail reports: “Leeds had been waiting for the EFL to approve their takeover by 49ers Enterprises before announcing who would be managing them in the Championship.

“The club are still hopeful that the American group’s buy-out of Italian Andrea Radrizzani will be given the green light in the coming days.

“However, with pre-season training getting underway this week, Leeds wanted to have their new boss installed.”

Painful

Ultimately fans won’t particularly care whose name is above the door for the next few weeks when it is clearly the 49ers in charge and Farke’s job is finally underway, as long as the announcement doesn’t get in the way of transfer business.

Since the Whites have had to announce the 46-year-old without ratification anyway it feels like they might as well have done some days ago.

He has a huge job on his hands to juggle training ground preparations with the players who are currently in the squad with influencing who stays and goes in the market, while sourcing targets of his own.

If the official start of the 49ers era could come within days then that would help finally put to bed the chaos of the previous Premier League season.

There isn’t expected to be an issue with the paperwork as the EFL go through vetting of the key members of the 49ers investment group, with it thought to simply be a time-consuming process that only got underway following the 9 June agreement being reached with Radrizzani.

That took almost a fortnight after relegation was confirmed, and it is has been almost another month before the manager was finally announced, but with Nick Hammond also brought in as the short-term filler for the sporting director position there is finally an operation up and running.

As a practical matter it is training and transfers that need the focus now, but the final word on the takeover sounds like it isn’t far off.

Either way everyone involved now has plenty of lost time to make up for ahead of the new season.

In other Leeds United news, one of the few stars of last season “will leave” with teams now vying to sign him this summer.
