Leeds United take first steps for FIFA Under-20 World Cup star’s transfer

Leeds United will undoubtedly have an eye on the FIFA Under-20 World Cup to determine future transfer prospects.

The Whites opted to add strength and experience to their team in the summer after promotion to the Premier League, but they also need to have one eye on their future.

Thorp Arch has produced some great talents like Archie Gray recently, with the 19-year-old completing a big-money move to Tottenham last summer.

Harry Gray is now in line for a new contract at Elland Road, and the West Yorkshire outfit’s focus on developing young talents doesn’t end just there.

Lisandru Olmeta wanted by Leeds United

LOSC Lille goalkeeper Lisandru Olmeta is attracting interest from Leeds, according to L’Equipe.

The news outlet reported on 16 October that the Whites have contacted the 20-year-old shot-stopper’s representatives about a potential move to Elland Road.

Olmeta is currently on loan at Ligue 2 outfit SC Bastia, but is yet to make an appearance for them this season.

The young goalkeeper has featured heavily at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, though, starting in every fixture for France before they were knocked out by Morocco in the semi-finals on penalties.

Daniel Farke has Lucas Perri and Karl Darlow at his disposal right now, with both shot-stoppers putting in some impressive performances this season.

A safe pair of hands in between the sticks can arguably be pivotal for any team, and it remains to be seen how Olmeta develops in the coming years and whether the West Yorkshire outfit will bring him to LS11 anytime soon.

Illan Meslier replacement found in Lisandru Olmeta

Illan Meslier’s future likely looks away from Elland Road, with the 25-year-old relegated to third-choice goalkeeper this season.

Having made some abysmal errors at Leeds last season, Daniel Farke has been justified in replacing the Frenchman after Premier League promotion.

With Meslier surely on his way out, Olmeta may be the one to take his place in the squad and learn from the likes of Perri before being handed opportunities at Elland Road.

The Whites have made some decent profits on their young talents in recent transfer windows, and the search for newer talent should be a key component of their recruitment strategy.
