Leeds United: Swedish newspaper reacts to ‘completely crazy’ Glen Kamara Finland performance v Denmark

Leeds United midfielder Glen Kamara completed the full 90 minutes for Finland in their 1-0 UEFA Euro 2024 Qualification defeat to Denmark on Sunday 9 September.

Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg’s 86th-minute goal gave Denmark a 1-0 win over Finland on Sunday as they leapfrogged their opponents in the Group H table to take a big step toward qualifying.

The Finnish still have a huge chance to qualify for Euro 2024 as they sit just a point below Slovenia and Denmark in the Group H table but still have plenty to do after their last-gasp defeat.

Leeds United summer signing Kamara was awarded a 7/10 match rating by Finnish newspaper HBL (10 September): “Matcho trained and it was noticeable in some sequences. Read some situations completely crazy. Had some good passes up but hesitated as he should have gone for the finish himself.”

All roads lead to Elland Road

The international break probably came at the wrong time for Glen Kamara following his move from Rangers during the summer transfer window, as he would have been hyped to make an instant name for himself at Elland Road.

However, as much as the international break could be deemed a distraction for several new signings to bed into their new clubs, a player like Kamara will have used the opportunity to get himself up to speed having not played much before his Leeds United transfer.

And the Finland defeat certainly highlighted a player still trying to get up to full fitness and failing to make an impact despite the Finnish media rating.

In his 90 minutes on the pitch, Kamara won just three of his nine total duels, successfully completed 76% of his 42 passes, and lost possession of the ball a whopping 17 times but still contributed to the attacking phases registering two key passes [SofaScore].

The former Rangers man is certainly better than what this latest performance suggests and he certainly has to be given the benefit of the doubt having not completed a full 90 minutes at club level all season so far [SofaScore].

However, all roads are indeed leading to an impact under Daniel Farke in West Yorkshire and the German coach will be confident the Finnish star will return to action at Elland Road in tip-top condition because his transfer still represents excellent business by Leeds.
