Leeds United surprise with transfer demand as Joe Gelhardt sent warning
Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt may not fare well away from Hull City.
The 23-year-old joined the Tigers on loan last summer and has been firing on all cylinders in the Championship, with nine goals in 18 matches.
Daniel Farke may want to recall Gelhardt in January, but it doesn’t look like the Whites have any plans to do so for now.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha’s injury may change the West Yorkshire outfit’s stance, but it remains to be seen what the future holds for the striker at Hull.

Joe Gelhardt price tag at Leeds United too much
Leeds may have been asking for too much with their price tag on Gelhardt this summer, Don Goodman says.
While the centre-forward has shown glimpses of his talent at the MKM Stadium, he was barely getting any minutes during his time at Elland Road.
Gelahardt was valued at £8million by Leeds, and he’s now living up to that valuation at Hull.
Speaking to Football League World on 5 December, Goodman said: “There’s no doubt about it, Gelhardt has probably surpassed expectations. People would’ve been surprised that Leeds would have been looking for £8m last summer, because there really hadn’t been that consistency element to his play or his goalscoring.”
“But, you’re seeing it come to fruition at Hull. He said he’s really loving his football there. The danger, of course, for Gelhardt is moving to another club. They may not play to his strengths in the same way that Hull do.”
Gelhardt may bring in an improved fee now at Elland Road, and his sale may be on the cards next summer, but it remains to be seen whether Hull will be able to afford him.
Elland Road hierarchy to hold off on Joe Gelhardt decision after what’s happened
Gelhardt will return to Leeds next summer, but the question regarding his future still remains.
If the Whites are relegated, it will be interesting to see whether Calvert-Lewin stays and plays in the Championship.
| Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists | Minutes played |
| Championship | 18 | 9 | 2 | 1381 |
If the West Yorkshire outfit are forced into a major squad overhaul in the coming months, then keeping an asset like Gelhardt would make sense.
The English youngster has shown he’s capable of scoring consistently in the Championship, and that may come in handy in LS11 next season if things don’t go to plan in the Premier League.
