Leeds United Supporters' Trust report 'disrespectful' Victor Orta after Elland Road footage emerges

Footage emerged on Sunday of Leeds United director Victor Orta mocking fans at Elland Road, and the club’s Supporters’ Trust has now responded.

Leeds United fans echoed chants of “sack the board” around Elland Road after the club’s 3-2 defeat to Fulham two weeks ago.

The Whites responded with back-to-back victories against Liverpool and Bournemouth, and Leeds United Sporting Director Victor Orta was spotted shushing fans and mocking the chants after the full-time whistle on Saturday.

The footage emerged on Twitter, and the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust responded with a message of their own.

“There’s expressing passion and there’s being disrespectful to your own fans. Will send that feedback to the club.”

Out of line

Orta is infamous around Leeds for his passion for football and for the club, but his latest actions are inexcusable.

The fans were understandably frustrated at both Jesse Marsch and the Leeds board after a hugely disappointing defeat to Fulham. Supporters are entitled to criticise the club when underperforming, and that’s exactly what they did.

Orta shied away from responsibility when the side were underperforming but now seems more than happy to be back in the public eye after results have turned around.

To mock fans and shush them for their reasonable criticism of the team is completely out of line. The footage doesn’t reflect well on him at all and the Supporters’ Trust are right to brand it disrespectful.

Every Leeds fan at Elland Road on Saturday was elated by the comeback and the result, but it was an ideal time to show unity and togetherness, not take aim at the fanbase and create a further gulf between the board and supporters.

The club, or Orta directly, will likely issue a response to the video and fans are owed an apology.
