Leeds United suffer fresh injury blow with Tyler Adams set for extended spell out after surgery - Phil Hay
Tyler Adams has been “forced to undergo surgery” on his hamstring injury and is now set for an “extended” Leeds United absence, Phil Hay reports.
Rumours had surfaced on Tuesday morning (28 March) that the American midfielder could be out for the rest of the season after having an operation on the problem and it now appears that Javi Gracia is going to be without him for some time.
Adams has been virtually ever-present this season but missed the 4-2 win over Wolves on 18 March with the injury, and it has now proven to be serious enough for surgery.
According to Hay in The Athletic the Whites are still trying to establish exactly how long the summer signing for RB Leipzig will miss, but an “extended absence comes as a blow” to the manager, with further assessments due next week.
Bad news
Gracia is already having to overcome knocks picked up over the international break to two of his key men in Willy Gnonto and Max Wober, although the initial prognosis with those two is far more positive.

But the Adams news is the last thing he or the fans need ahead of a crucial relegation battle run in, just as things were looking up with the club climbing to 14th.
Three games in 10 days to start April has the potential to be key to the fight against the drop, with games against fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace following a trip to league-leaders Arsenal.
Adams has become a crucial part of the Leeds United line up this season, with Marc Roca and latterly Weston McKennie partnering him.
Neither is a like for like replacement for his abilities on the press and if he is ruled out for a number of weeks, and potentially the rest of the campaign, it leaves a worrying hole in the midfield.
Gracia has overseen a definite uplift in the club’s fortunes since he took over from Jesse Marsch but he is set for a real challenge now with Adams unavailable and other key players missing games as well.
In other Leeds United news, a club are now bracing for bids on the key man the Whites have already made an approach for.
