Leeds United submit opening £24.6m bid to sign Weston McKennie from Juventus – Fabrizio Romano
Leeds have made an opening bid of £24.6million for Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie, with personal terms already agreed between the player and the Whites, according to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The USA international has long been a target [Evening Standard, 22 December] for Premier League clubs in the past, and had been made available for transfer by Juventus following their punishment for financial irregularities recently, with which the club may be forced to cash in on some of their players.
And according to Calciomercato [25 January], the player’s agent is in London as he wants to get direct knowledge of the offer made by Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani.
And now it seems as though the Whites are firming up their interest in the midfielder by making an opening bid.
According to reliable transfer guru Romano [25 January], Leeds have submitted an opening bid of £24.6m to Juventus, with personal terms already agreed upon with the player regarding a late move this month.
Taking to his personal Twitter account, he tweeted: “Negotiations continue between Leeds and Juventus for Weston McKennie as opening bid has been made for €28m, Juventus want €35m fee.
“McKennie has already agreed personal terms with Leeds.”
Smart addition
Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch has already used his American connections in the past, acquiring the signings of both Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson and now it seems he’s about to add to that quota by signing arguably the best of the lot.
McKennie represents a smart and ambitious addition by the Whites’ hierarchy as Marsch looks to firm up his midfield for the foreseeable future.

The Leeds United manager is clearly being backed by the Whites’ board after signing Maximilian Wober and Georginio Rutter, and now believes he has the tools to drag the club up the Premier League table and away from a needless relegation battle in which they currently sit just one point above it
McKennie will add a wealth of European experience and pedigree to the club setup, as well as slotting in nicely in Marsch’s midfield alongside his international teammate Adams.
And what a midfield pairing it could be, seeing as both players rapidly impressed during the World Cup in Qatar. Marsch is now under pressure to deliver the points Leeds need to prop up the league table.
In other Leeds United news, a journalist has shared if Leeds are set for a financial gain if Raphinha quits Barcelona and moves to the Premier League or elsewhere in the future.
