Leeds United submit £22m bid to sign Angers midfielder Azzedine Ounahi

Leeds United have submitted a £22million bid to sign Angers midfielder Azzedine Ounahi in the January transfer window, as reported by journalist Saber Desfarges.

The Telefoot journalist (8 January) said on Twitter that Ounahi is about to change his agents in order to move away from the French club.

Napoli have also made a bid of £17.6million to sign the 22-year-old midfielder to dazzle in the World Cup in Qatar, but Leeds have come up with a tempting offer.

Victor Orta admitted [16 December, Spanish outlet Marca, as transcribed by Yorkshire Evening Post] that he has been keeping tabs on him for the last two years, and he has been left “surprised” by the progress shown by the midfielder.

“Window information from Saber Desfarges,” reported by Telefoot on Twitter.

“Azzedine Ounahi is about to change agents according to our information.

“Leeds made an offer of 25 million euros (£22m), as did Napoli who made an offer of less than 20 million (£17.6m).”

Get it done

Leeds usually sign players only after making extensive scouting, and we find a similar case here.

Orta was surprised by the progress shown by the player in the World Cup. His rapid progress has already caught the attention of Andrea Radrizzani, and the bid is a natural culmination of proper planning from the club.

Fabrizio Romano reported on 15 December that a host of Premier League clubs have been keeping tabs on the midfielder, but the Whites have made an early approach.

Like last summer, Leeds have been proactive in the transfer market once again. They have already signed Max Wober from RB Salzburg, while are looking to add Hoffenheim striker Georginio Rutter [The Athletic].

Bolstering the midfield is a priority for the club. The club confirmed that Mateusz Klich will move to the MLS this month, and they are wasting no time to bring in a replacement.

Ounahi showed in the World Cup that he can be a versatile player who can dribble past players. The deal is not sealed yet, but the Whites could be leading the race for his signature.

In other Leeds United news, the club is in advanced talks over another major signing, according to Fabrizio Romano.
