Leeds United striker Willy Gnonto scored the highest rating in Italy clash with Italy
Leeds United summer addition Willy Gnonto featured for Italy last night and helped the Azzurri to a 1-0 win over England in their Nations League clash at the San Siro.
It’s fair to say the 18-year-old has excited a few at Elland Road and he produced a number of nice moments after he was introduced in the second half for Roberto Mancini’s side.
His diminutive figure allows him to move with the ball at speed and he certainly had England’s fragile defence worried at times.
The BBC ratings are voted by the fans and as much as Gnonto was impressive when he came on, something tells us that Leeds United fans may have got involved with the poll, with the 18-year-old’s 25-minute cameo amassing a 6.95 rating.
Considering he scored higher than Italy’s match-winner Giacomo Raspadori, the Elland Road faithful have shown their ability to hijack a vote very well.
There should be plenty of excitment when it comes to Gnonto. He didn’t look out of place against some of the better players in Europe on Friday evening and should soon be unleashed on Jesse Marsch’s first eleven.
Considering he is already regularly featuring for Italy on the international stage he is clearly a special talent who will likely be Marsch’s go-to youngster alongside Joe Gelhardt.
If Gnonto keeps on featuring for Italy it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him at the top of the match ratings once again in the near future.
