Leeds United starlet Stuart McKinstry being lined up for loan move by Hartlepool United

Leeds United prospect Stuary McKinstry could be set for a loan move to League Two, according to the Hartlepool Mail.

The 19-year-old midfielder, who turns 20 in September, is being considered by Hartlepool United who finished 17th in their first season back in the EFL last season.

According to the Hartlepool Mail, Paul Hartley is “weighing up” a move for McKinstry after the youngster impressed for Leeds’ Under-23s.

The starlet made his senior debut in a Carabao Cup stalemate against Fulham in September 2021 and bagged the winning penalty in the shootout.

He continued to impress in the Papa John’s Trophy and went on to make his Premier League debut in November, and is regarded highly at Elland Raod.

Another endorsement of Leeds’ youth recruitment

McKinstry being given a loan opportunity despite having limited first team minutes under his belt shows the strength of Leeds’ youth recruitment yet again.

The Peacocks operated on a thin squad last season and were in a constant injury crisis, which put the youngsters on full display.

Joe Gelhardt captured the headlines, making 20 appearances and grabbing six-goal contributions alongside a Golden Boy nomination, but others shone too.

Sam Greenwood, Charlie Cresswell and McKinstry all impressed when in and around the first team and made 13 Premier League appearances between them.

Of these, only Cresswell started his career at Leeds with Greenwood and McKinstry arriving from Arsenal and Motherwell respectively.

Leeds identifying youngsters in other academies and moulding them into senior players within three years speaks volumes about the strength of their academy.

Both players were relative unknowns at the time they were signed, though there was some hype around Greenwood.

All the signs point toward McKinstry having a dazzling career in senior football and the loan at Hartlepool could be the catalyst he needs.

If he gets a good season under his belt at Hartlepool, McKinstry could be ready for more senior minutes at Elland Road.
