Leeds United starlet Alfie McCalmont discusses his first senior start for Northern Ireland
Leeds United starlet Alfie McCalmont has revealed his delight at making his first senior start for Northern Ireland and hopes for more caps in the future.
The midfielder who is currently on loan with Morecambe started the game against Estonia and played the full 90 minutes for his country, and he was clearly both delighted and surprised.
The 21-year-old has made ten appearances for the Under-21s, but he has now made his first senior start for his country, and he clearly has got the taste for it [Yorkshire Evening Post].

“I was supposed to be with the Under 21s, but the gaffer came to my game last Saturday against Sheffield Wednesday and then I got a text saying I’d be going with him, so I was absolutely delighted.”
The start of a long international career?
McCalmont has made a good start to life for his country and received praise from Ian Baraclough after the game [Leeds Live].
He didn’t get to play alongside Stuart Dallas but that clearly didn’t bother McCalmont who sounded so happy.
The midfielder has been described as “fantastic” by the Belfast Telegraph recently and scored ten goals for Oldham Athletic last season in 39 appearances.

So, he has proven himself in the past to have an eye for goal, and we hope that this international recognition perhaps speeds up McCalmont’s progression to the first team at Elland Road when he returns from his loan this season.
We always love to see Leeds players gain international recognition, and it was fantastic to see McCalmont start for his country at senior level.
In other Leeds United news, a Sky Sports has been left stunned by what one Leeds player said recently.
