Leeds United star set for imminent medical tests after what’s just happened away from Elland Road

Leeds United have suffered a fresh injury blow away from Elland Road as the international break nears its conclusion.

The Whites continue their Premier League campaign away at Burnley on Saturday afternoon, and will be desperately hoping that they can head into the clash without any additional fitness concerns.

Nine Leeds stars have been away on international duty this week, with the likes of Gabriel Gudmundsson and Brenden Aaronson among those who have travelled to represent their countries.

Several of the West Yorkshire outfit’s representatives on the global stage conclude their international duty on either Monday or Tuesday, but one man has been forced into an early departure from his country’s camp.

Isaac Schmidt suffers injury while on Switzerland duty

Isaac Schmidt was loaned out by Leeds in the latter stages of the summer, as he joined Werder Bremen on a season-long loan deal.

Things had been looking up for the right-back, with injuries elsewhere in the squad for the Bundesliga outfit seemingly creating the opportunity for him to make his first league start of the season after the international break.

However, that possibility could now be in doubt, after the 25-year-old suffered an injury of his own during a training session for Switzerland.

The Leeds loanee departed his nation’s training camp on Sunday, after suffering from “severe pain” for large parts of the week due to a blow to his foot, according to Bild.

Schmidt is set to undergo medical tests imminently over the “next few days,” and it is currently unclear how long he will be on the sidelines for.

Injuries are always a concern for clubs during international breaks, and Daniel Farke and Co. can perhaps count themselves lucky that the only problem at this stage is concerning a player who is currently away from Elland Road.

Leeds need Isaac Schmidt to perform during loan spell to seal permanent exit

Leeds were desperate to offload Schmidt over the summer, but were ultimately only able to secure a loan exit for him.

He simply hasn’t worked out as a signing at all, and with that in mind, they will surely be hoping to oversee a permanent departure either in January or in the next summer transfer window.

However, Werder Bremen are unlikely to be keen to do permanent business for Schmidt if he is unable to break into their team.

It has already become pretty clear that he has no future at Leeds, but injury issues like this will still be a concern because it could easily result in them being stuck with a player who is severely out of favour in the long term.
