Leeds United star Illan Meslier now has to share Championship award with play-off rival
Leeds United ace Illan Meslier has been made to share his SkyBet Championship Golden Glove award with West Brom goalkeeper Alex Palmer.
The Baggies announced via their official website on Friday (10 May) that Palmer, 27, was presented with the trophy at their training ground earlier this week after his clean sheet against Preston drew him level with Leeds’ Meslier.
Both goalkeepers finished the season on 18 clean sheets after Meslier conceded twice to Southampton on the final day of the regular Championship season.
Championship Golden Glove clarification at Leeds and West Brom
SkyBet seemed to jump the gun a bit with their announcement that Meslier had won the Championship’s Golden Glove award on Saturday (4 May).
Meslier had just conceded twice to Southampton while Palmer managed a shut-out at The Hawthorns in West Brom’s 3-0 win over Preston, which also qualified them for the play-offs.
Meslier technically went 19 games without conceding a goal this season but his red card in the 53rd minute of the defeat against Preston – which happened while the game was still goalless – seemingly doesn’t count towards the Frenchman’s total.

West Brom say on their website that the award is being shared due to the same tally of clean sheets being kept by both goalkeepers but the EFL could really do with clarifying this because an announcement was made and now another announcement has been.
Meslier and Palmer could meet again in the Championship play-off final if they win their respective semi-finals against Norwich and Southampton.
Palmer has been one of West Brom’s stand-out players this season while Meslier has attracted a lot of criticism lately for some poor errors that have led to goals being conceded.
