Leeds United star Illan Meslier in advanced talks over new long-term contract

Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier is in advanced talks with the club over a new long-term contract, according to The Athletic journalist Phil Hay.

The France youth international, 21, has established himself as a key player for the Whites, and is now set to be rewarded with a new and improved contract.

Meslier has two years left on his current deal, and Leeds reckon now is the best time to hand him an extension having seen his stock rise.

Great choice

Europe’s bigwigs are definitely keeping tabs on the Frenchman after he established himself as a regular in the Premier League at such a young age.

Meslier pipped Kiko Casilla to the number one berth and has repaid head coach Marcelo Bielsa’s faith in him with some top performance in the Premier League.

He was one of the best goalkeepers in the top-flight last season and we are definitely still going to see more of him in the new season.

At such a young age Meslier is only going to get better going forward, and we cannot wait to see him establish himself as a regular for the French senior team pretty soon.

With Leeds pushing for Europe in 2021-22, we can be rest assured that the youngster is going to play his part in our bid to break into the top-seven.

While signing a new deal guarantees having Meslier in the long-term, holding on to him if he keeps impressing at the current rate could be difficult.

However, we can be rest assured that we are going to make a lot of profit anytime we decide to cash in on him.
