Leeds United star Glen Kamara called up to Finland national team

By Harri Burton

Glen Kamara has been awarded for his recent Leeds United performances with a call-up to the Finland team for the upcoming international break.

As confirmed on the club’s website on Wednesday (8 November), Kamara will be joining up with the Finland squad ahead of another two EURO 2024 qualifiers, coming up against Northern Ireland and San Marino.

With three losses in their last three games, Finland sit fourth in Group H and have no hope of qualifying automatically for the tournament in Germany and may have to depend on the play-offs.

However, the Finland manager, Markku Kanerva, will be hoping to end the qualifying campaign on a high, facing the two teams below them in the group.

A recent turn-up in performances

The 28-year-old has endured a tough time at the club since his arrival from Rangers in the summer.

Having missed the first four matches of the Championship season, Kamara came into a team with an invigorated Ethan Ampadu, a young talent in Archie Gray, and the ever-dependable Jamie Shackleton in midfield.

Despite such a tough area of the pitch to break into, the former Gers man has taken the challenge in his stride and has earned his spot in the starting XI. His most recent display was a man-of-the-match performance against Leicester City.

And although Kamara is not known for his goal involvements, he has already notched his first Leeds assist, helping Joel Piroe to score the winner in a tight affair against Bristol City in October.

It is clear to see why Kamara is such a trusted member of the Finland squad, and why he will no doubt add to his 56 international caps.

In other Leeds United news,  this summer signing will be regretting the decision to come to Elland Road already after Daniel Farke’s recent comments.
