Leeds United star Georginio Rutter compared to Zinedine Zidane after Watford show

Leeds United star Georginio Rutter has been compared to French legend Zinedine Zidane by former teammate Kevin Akpoguma after his performance in the Championship clash with Watford.

Rutter’s former Hoffenheim teammate took to Instagram to heap praise on his friend after he secured yet another assist in an eye-catching performance as Leeds dismantled Watford 3-0 on Saturday (23 September).

The Frenchman’s grace and elegance in possession, as well as his skill and drive going forward, has led to comparisons being made, with his performances at Elland Road earning him the very highest of plaudits.

Taking to Instagram following the victory, Rutter posted images of him and his teammates celebrating all three goals, to which Akpoguma replied simply: “Zidane” with the suggesting eye emoji.

The post was also swamped with support and praise from fans, as well as teammates Liam Cooper, who replied with fire emojis, and Wilfired Gnonto who wrote “Merci”, with a general sense of awe and inspiration surrounding the French forward’s performance.

Starting to show some consistency

Rutter arrived as Leeds United’s record transfer signing last year, but failed to make much of an impact on the team as they suffered relegation, but has now started to show exactly why that kind of money was spent on bringing him to Yorkshire.

So far this season, he has picked up two goals and two assists in the Championship, with both assists and one of the goals coming in his last three games as he finally looks to be putting some consistency together.

There have still been less glittering performances, with 0-0 draws against Sheffield Wednesday and Hull City proving frustrating, but his ability on the ball has become clear for all to see, and the difference he can make to Daniel Farke’s side is unmatched.

Having such a creative outlet who is also capable of scoring goals in the side will give Leeds a fantastic chance of achieving their targets this season, and his budding link with Joel Piroe is looking to be one of the most threatening at this level.
