Leeds United star Brenden Aaronson gets police escort in Qatar at World Cup

Leeds United playmaker Brenden Aaronson was given a police escort in Qatar as he went out for a meal with his World Cup teammates.

The 22-year-old midfielder will be representing the United States at the World Cup and will face England in a crunch game on November 25 – the winner of which will be expected to qualify from Group B as winners.

Heading out into Doha for a burger with teammates Christian Pulisic, Ethan Horvath, Luca de la Torre, Tim Ream and Cristian Roldan, Aaronson was given a police escort as he walked through the streets of Qatar’s capital.

Talented squad

Although England are heavy favourites to qualify from Group B, Aaronson and co will be looking to spring a surprise and set up a potential last-16 tie with the Netherlands.

With attacking players including the Leeds playmaker and Chelsea star Christian Pulisic, the USA’s match against Wales on Monday 21 November is going to be crucial in their chances of qualifying from the group.

However, for the USA to have a successful World Cup campaign they will have to take on some harsh lessons from qualifying.

The side – whose average age is just 24 – has struggled to find consistency over the past year, winning the Gold Cup in 2021, before losing to Costa Rica, and Panama and then taking just one point from a possible six against Canada [fourfourtwo].

Aaronson will look to continue his fine start to life at Elland Road which has seen him start 14 times this season and become an integral part of Jesse Marsch’s plans.
