Leeds United stance v Chelsea shared as Mauricio Pochettino sack mooted in ‘disastrous’ verdict

Leeds United believe they can cause an upset in their upcoming match against Chelsea, according to Dean Jones.

The journalist shared the view ahead of the FA Cup fifth round meeting between the two clubs at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday (28 February).

Jones added that Blues manager Mauricio Pochettino could face the sack should the Whites come out on top after their “massive” League Cup final defeat to Liverpool.

“This is a massive loss,” Jones told GIVEMESPORT (26 February). “You don’t get a better chance to beat Liverpool than to come up against a side missing as many players as they were at Wembley.

“They got away with Moises Caicedo’s tackle and the Virgil van Dijk VAR goal, and when their chances came along they just couldn’t take them. That’s hard to accept – and made harder by the fact they didn’t go for the kill in extra-time when Liverpool were fielding youngsters that many people literally would never have heard of.

“The late defeat has been described as pathetic and they are being labelled bottle jobs and now they have to take on Leeds United, one of their oldest rivals in the game. Leeds will come to London believing they can cause an upset and if they do then Pochettino is probably going to be facing the sack. It could become a truly disastrous week.”

Chelsea to sack Mauricio Pochettino if Leeds United win at Stamford Bridge?

Even with Chelsea’s struggles this season, it would be a rash and strange decision from owner Todd Boehly to sack the man in the dugout.

He joined the club with many problems already in place, with a lot of those problems still out of his control.

Pochettino will undoubtedly be very disappointed with the result against Liverpool, but the Reds players were simply hungrier than their opponents on the day.

The Merseyside outfit also had a massive vocal backing from their boisterous fans, who were overjoyed when the final whistle went at the national stadium.

The Blues now have an immediate chance to bounce back when they host Leeds in FA Cup action, with another defeat for the London club unthinkable for Pochettino.

A home loss to a Championship side may, however, be the final straw for the manager, particularly given Chelsea’s history when it comes to sacking their bosses.
