Leeds United squad verdict on Illan Meslier v Sheffield United emerges
Jermaine Pennant doesn’t believe Leeds United players will expect Illan Meslier to be dropped against Sheffield United after his error against Sunderland.
The Whites take on Chris Wilder’s team at Elland Road on Friday [18 October] in the Championship after the international break.
When asked about Meslier [talkSPORT, 17 October, 19:38], Pennant feels the Frenchman will remain in place for Daniel Farke despite costing his side in the 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light.
“No,” he said. “You know as players, it’s possible to make a mistake, and as players, we’ve all made mistakes in our careers. It’s just one of these things, and you just got to get over it.
“They’ve seen his longevity throughout the seasons, and since he’s been there, he’s been solid, so you can’t really judge it on one mistake.”
Illan Meslier to start for Leeds United
What signal would it give the other players if Farke were to axe Meslier from his side after one freak mistake, only to kill his confidence further?
While it was a massive and shocking error, it could’ve happened to anyone, and dropping the Frenchman on that one mistake would be harsh.
The 24-year-old has been one of the most consistent Leeds players over the years and has always bounced back after errors here and there.

Karl Darlow is next line and recently made his full international debut for Wales, but his best years may be behind him at Championship level.
Therefore, it would be prudent of Farke not to disturb the stability of his side and to continue with Meslier in goal in a huge Yorkshire derby.
The Whites already have several injuries to contend with, and the German manager does not need another headache with the Meslier situation.
