Leeds United squad update emerges with Daniel Farke set to arrive to players ‘going nowhere’ in transfer market

There is a “determination” among the Leeds United squad to focus on the field and impress the incoming new manager, according to Leeds Live.

With players returning to Thorp Arch for preseason Sunday (2 June) various first-team names are expected to leave during the transfer window but those who are set to stay are apparently raring to go as they anticipate the “expected” arrival of Daniel Farke as the new man in charge.

The Whites had wanted to announce the German by now but are insisting on waiting until the EFL ratify the 49ers takeover, so while the squad start to come back from their summer holidays without an official head coach there is a contingent planning on “going nowhere” who are ready to impress when he takes over.

The report on Sunday (2 July) said: “Leeds Live has been told there is a real determination among the group who know they will be going nowhere, to get back to work and to start putting the building blocks in place which will enable the team to challenge this upcoming season.

“Despite all that is going on, keeping the focus on the field is key for the majority of the players, who know they have a new manager to impress.”

Anticipation

It is hardly the ideal set up for the players to start returning to the training ground after a month off to find no manager in place.

There needs to be clear direction around the club following the destabilising relegation, so there might have been fears that a lack of announcement by now might help tip the scales in some the squad’s eyes towards pushing for an exit.

But with it largely seen as an open secret now that Farke is the next manager it appears there is a positive outlook among those who will be staying to establish a key role for themselves under the new boss.

Whether the German might already be present in some capacity behind the scenes is unclear, but this is the sort of update that supporters worried about the squad coming back to a vacuum of leadership or information would want to hear.

The sooner everything can be made official the better so the transfer window work can begin in earnest, but if Farke is able to convince some of those who might otherwise be on the fence to stick around in West Yorkshire it will give him less to do once the announcement is made.

There will surely come a point where that has to happen regardless of the EFL giving the green light for the takeover, so perhaps the fact the club continue to wait suggests they have had some indication from the league that a conclusion isn’t far off.

Until then, the players are coming back into the building and work on the training ground is set to recommence, so without everything in place yet going forward it is positive news that there sounds to be a renewed commitment to the new era among some areas of the squad.

In other Leeds United news, one key man has been backed to leave to a former relegation rival with talks reportedly already being held over a deal.
