Leeds United spark disbelief after what Athletic journalist saw in Fulham defeat
Leeds United fell to their second defeat of the season against Fulham.
After such a poor end to the window for Leeds, concerns are flying around the minds of everyone associated with the Whites.
They were only amplified by Leeds’ 1-0 defeat away to Fulham on Saturday afternoon, with Daniel Farke’s side once again failing to get on the score sheet.
Unsurprisingly, the lack of goal threat posed by Leeds has sparked debate yet again when it comes to the business that the 49ers did in the summer transfer market.

49ers have given Daniel Farke a knife for a gunfight
The league table may not suggest it, given the fact that Leeds have picked up four points from the opening four games, but there are some serious concerns to be had.
Leeds have still only scored one goal in the Premier League this season, and that was Lukas Nmecha’s controversial penalty against Everton on the opening day.
Since then, the Whites have looked incapable of finishing their dinner, and it all stems back to the summer transfer market.
Leeds’ stats vs Fulham
- 46% possession
- 1 big chance created
- 10 shots
- 3 shots on target
- 0.79 xG
- 0 goals
Despite Daniel Farke‘s demands, the 49ers failed to add more attacking quality to the squad, and Athletic journalist Adam Crafton remains in disbelief at the business done.
Via X on 13 September, he said: “Hard to understand what Leeds have done from an attacking perspective in the market.
“They’ve got a good enough defence and midfield to be competitive in every game, but they haven’t given themselves a chance to win games.
“The rest of the team will lose confidence, too, when the attack is so feeble.”
Leeds have the right ambitions, but have made the wrong decisions
The 49ers have faced plenty of criticism at Leeds already this summer, and while warranted, very few can argue against the fact that their ambitions are in the right place.
However, that means nothing if the method of achieving it is wrong, which is certainly the case for Leeds.
Farke has very few, if any, reliable sources of goals in his squad, and that is only going to become clearer as the campaign goes on.
Leeds need to find a remedy to the concerns as a matter of urgency, and once again, that pressure will be fed onto the shoulders of Farke.
