Leeds United: Spanish newspaper says what’s happened to Illan Meslier after Real Madrid links
Illan Meslier is once again flourishing at Leeds United as one of the goalkeepers with the most potential in English football, according to Sport.
The Spanish newspaper reported on page 27 of its print edition on Tuesday (12 March) that it wasn’t easy for the 24-year-old to previously be a starter in the Premier League at such a young age and be linked with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona.
But following the Whites’ relegation to the Championship, it added that the Frenchman now appears to have regained the confidence to once again be the keeper that former boss Marcelo Bielsa fell in love with at Elland Road.
Illan Meslier in fine form for Leeds United
It’s certainly been a mixed time for Meslier at Leeds since joining the club from French side Lorient in 2019 when he was just 19.
He put in some excellent performances in his first few seasons at Elland Road before losing his place in the side towards the back end of the last campaign.
But after the Whites were relegated to the Championship, the keeper has certainly refound his form, having helped his side record the best defensive record in the division.

The Frenchman has now kept 17 clean sheets in 35 appearances during this campaign, with Daniel Farke’s side well-placed to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.
There is no doubt that he is going to be vital in their push for promotion over the next couple of months after building up a great partnership with the defenders in front of him.
In other Leeds United news, a £20million permanent transfer has been mooted for one Whites loanee.
