Leeds United slammed over ‘dreadful’ behind-the-scenes decision
Leeds United charging extortionate prices for tickets ahead of their match against Hull City has been called “dreadful” by one journalist.
Daily Mail Sport reporter Kathryn Batte posted on X (13 August) after seeing that the Whites were charging £23.50 for a junior ticket (ages 2-15) in the away end at Elland Road.
That price is just £6.50 cheaper than the price for a full adult ticket, which Batte was quick to call out.
Leeds United must fix extortionate ticket prices at Elland Road
Despite missing out on achieving promotion and an instant return to the Premier League last season, money is hardly short to come by at Elland Road following various business deals this summer.
Not only did the club agree part-ownership and a record-breaking EFL sponsorship deal with energy drinks giant Red Bull, they’ve also brought in well over £75million in transfer fees from player sales.
As such, charging both their own and opposition fans through the nose to simply watch a match is far from a popular move, with season tickets increasing in price for the first time in 11 years.
Furthermore, away fans who have followed the club through thick and thin have also seen a massive hike in tickets ahead of the new campaign, threatening to alienate a number of loyal supporters.
As such, charging children as young as two years old £23.50 for the clash with Hull is nothing out of the ordinary – but this is something which has to change if United want to stay in touch with their roots.
