Leeds United slammed as ‘naive’ by Darren Bent after horror start v Spurs

Leeds United endured a horrific start to their home game against Tottenham Hotspur as they went 2-0 down within 15 minutes.

Matt Doherty and Dejan Kusulevski scored in quick succession to give Antonio Conte’s men the advantage with Harry Kane adding a third just before the half-hour.

The Elland Road crowd were not best pleased with the opening quarter of an hour and very loud boos could be heard ringing around the ground.

Darren Bent blasted Marcelo Bielsa’s side via his personal Twitter account as being naive and even suggested they could get relegated.

“Leeds Defending is so Naive. something needs to change or they will go down,” he said.

Time to change

It’s great that Leeds United have an identity in their style of play because a lot of teams don’t have that.

But when that identity is that you concede loads of goals and are easy to pick apart, it isn’t good enough.

Poor Illan Meslier has had an awful lot of work to do this season because the outfield players can’t keep the opposition from breaking through with ease.

This gung-ho, man-to-man tactic may have worked last season and in the Championship but Bielsa has been figured out now and it needs to change.

Every game Leeds use this system, they will get beaten and handsomely too because the manager is too stubborn to make any changes.

It’s been a great three years for Bielsa in Yorkshire and he will always be considered a hero at Elland Road for what he’s done, but maybe now he has overstayed his welcome.

A fresh impetus is needed at the club and Bielsa seems incapable of bringing it; time to go.
