Leeds United: Sky Sports reporter destroys Weston McKennie for what he did in Premier League loss vs Fulham

Sky Sports reporter Sam Blitz has slammed Weston McKennie after the Leeds United midfielder produced a reckless moment during the Whites’ Premier League clash against Fulham.

The 24-year-old put in a rash tackle on Kenny Tete in the first half after giving the ball away, and was booked by referee Peter Bankes.

Reporting live from Craven Cottage on Saturday (22 April), Blitz was less than impressed with the American midfielder.

“It’s such a poor pass out from McKennie which Tete intercepts. And an even worse challenge. Very reckless,” said Blitz.

“He is not quite flavour of the month with the Leeds support due to a couple of high-profile errors leading to goals. That won’t help his cause.

“A lot more was expected from him when he arrived from Juventus in January.”

Tough task

Due to Tyler Adams’ injury, McKennie has been thrust into a slightly unsuitable role in the first-team too quickly and considering the reputation he came with, Leeds fans were perhaps expecting more from the 24-year-old. Nevertheless, we have seen this scenario occur before.

The pace and competitiveness of the Premier League is unlike anything else in Europe and it’s clear McKennie is still trying to adjust. He’s being caught out on the ball and mistiming tackles because he’s been thrown into such a pressurised environment and is expected to make an impact.

Leeds United

Had Leeds been in a more favourable league position, the on-loan Juventus man would probably be having more of an impact on proceedings. It will be interesting to see what happens with the American during the off-season, particularly if Leeds do stay up.

There’s clearly a talented player in there somewhere, but considering he was signed by Jesse Marsch, there’s a chance Javi Gracia or another manager may not have the same affection.

In other Leeds United news, a Whites player has a potential offer on the table and could seal his permanent Elland Road exit this summer.
