Leeds United: Simon Jordan and Martin Keown clash over promotion verdict in Leicester admission

Simon Jordan has responded to Martin Keown live on air after he suggested Leeds United could win the Championship this season if they beat Leicester City.

Daniel Farke’s side welcome the Foxes to Elland Road on Friday (23 February) in a top-of-the-table clash, knowing that a win would reduce the gap to the top of the table to only seven points with 12 games left to play.

While Jordan has insisted that Leicester will still win the league and register a record points tally this term, Keown is convinced that Friday night’s clash could be the turning point in the remainder of the season.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Friday (23 February, 12:53) he said: “Are they starting to look a bit over the shoulder Leicester? They lost last weekend, I still see both teams going up but I think Ipswich have responded.

“It’s a mission to get promoted from the Championship, but these two look really strong, of course, they have that financial muscle. I think Leeds are in really good shape, for me they might just win this game.

“If they do, Leicester, I still think they’ll be comfortable enough to go up, but it starts to play on your mind a bit when you’ve been reeled in.”

Jordan disagreed saying: “I think it will be a great game and the telling point might be that it’s at Elland Road, but Leicester are going to win this league. I think Leicester are going to get record points.”

Can Leeds United beat Leicester City to the Championship title?

Friday night’s clash at Elland Road couldn’t get much bigger for Leeds United and while Enzo Maresca has tried to play down its importance to Leicester, it could also be season-defining for the Foxes this year.

It was only a matter of months ago that questions were being asked about Farke as Leeds slipped away in the race for automatic promotion with a number of poor results over the festive period. Now they are viewed as genuine title contenders.

A win against the table-toppers would send Elland Road into delirium and while there is still plenty of football to be played between now and the end of the season, the prize on offer is coming further into focus.

No matter what, it seems as though these two sides are now almost every pundit’s favourites for automatic promotion this season ahead of the likes of Ipswich and Southampton.
