Leeds United signing Luis Sinisterra suffers off the ball injury in Crystal Palace clash

Leeds United may have suffered a major blow in their preparations for the new season as new signing Luis Sinisterra limped off against Crystal Palace.

The Colombian was brought in to replace departing star man Raphinha in a £21million deal from Dutch side Feyenoord and figured to be a big part of Jesse Marsch’s plans.

But as the Whites took on their Premier League rivals in a preseason match on Friday morning (22 July) the winger was withdrawn after 11 minutes, as shared by The Athletic’s Phil Hay.

Writing on his personal Twitter account Hay said: “Eleven minutes in, Sinisterra down and feeling his hamstring. Seemed to pull up off the ball and is coming off.”

He was replaced by club-record signing Rodrigo after departing in what could turn out to be a significant disruption to the manager’s plans.

Unbelievable

United are searching for further attacking reinforcements as it is but may be forced into the market with greater force if this one ends up being a long lay off.

Fans will be desperately hoping that it was only a twinge and that their new man was taken off primarily as a precaution but the fact it was an off the ball injury doesn’t sound good.

With Raphinha gone Marsch was going to have to adapt his game plans, and the continued uncertainty around Jack Harrison is making the wide forward position all the more important.

If Sinisterra is ruled out for any length of time it no doubt makes even a massive offer from Newcastle not enough to take the Englishman.

And with Dan James inconsistent it leaves a potential weakness at the position, although Crysencio Summerville could move into a more important role.

Whether there is time to bring in another starting calibre wide man in the remaining weeks of the window remains to be seen, but everyone at the club will be on the edge of their seat waiting to find out the severity of the latest set-back.

In other Leeds United news, the biggest sale in the club’s history may not have been so bumper after shock new figures emerge.
