Leeds United signing Georginio Rutter was Everton target before Elland Road transfer
Leeds United new signing Georginio Rutter was reportedly a transfer target for Everton before he sealed his switch to Elland Road this month.
The Frenchman joined Leeds for a club-record fee as Jesse Marsch prioritised the signing of a new striker in the January window.
However, according to the Telegraph on 21 January, the Toffees, who are in relegation trouble, also wanted to secure the 20-year-old’s services.
Double win for Leeds
In signing Rutter, not only have Leeds strengthened their attack, but have also ensured that their relegation rivals did not get him on their side.
It’s pretty evident that the Frenchman was a wanted man and was viewed by many as a game changer who can be the difference between a side staying up or getting relegated.
Hopefully, his average goal-scoring record does not continue at Elland Road as Leeds have committed a long-term contract along with a huge transfer fee to bring him to Elland Road.
Jesse Marsch’s signings have mostly been good but it remains to be seen how Rutter adapts to life in the Premier League.
Oftentimes, players coming in from the Bundesliga struggle to adapt and we’re hoping that’s not the case with Rutter.
We cannot wait to see him making his debut against Brentford and it’ll be great if he begins his life as a Leeds player with a goal in his first game.
