Athletic journalist: Leeds make interest known for 19/20 breakthrough talent

Leeds United have made their interest in Derby County midfielder Louie Sibley known this week, according to Ryan Conway.

The Athletic journalist has shared on his personal Twitter account that the Whites’ interest isn’t as intense as once suggested.

Conway claimed that it was unclear whether or not Leeds would have the budget left to tempt Derby in the last week of this window.

Premier League and EFL clubs can deal between each other until 5pm on Friday evening to complete any transfers.

Football Insider first reported that Sibley is very firmly on the radar of Victor Orta and Leeds, although no official offer has yet been submitted.

It is suggested that the Whites will try to secure a beat-the-deadline deal this week, with four days left to work with.

Leeds have been targeting a versatile attacking midfielder over the summer and failed with a £20million deal to sign Michael Cuisance, who has since joined Marseille.

A breakthrough year

Sibley has jumped onto the scene with great effect at Derby since the beginning of last season.

The 19-year-old playmaker made 14 appearances for the senior side last season in all competitions, including an impressive hat-trick against Millwall after lockdown.

Phillipe Cocu has started Sibley in five of the six games so far this season, with the youngster missing the 1-0 win over Norwich last weekend.

With Leeds’ interest coming in the final week of the window, Derby are likely to demand a high figure for their teenage talent – potentially ending their interest, something which doesn’t appear huge after this Conway update.
