Leeds United should’ve hired Sean Dyche as pundit makes manager admission

Leeds United have “missed a trick” in not bringing in Sean Dyche as Jesse Marsch’s replacement at Elland Road, according to pundit Michael Bridges.

Dyche took over the reins from Frank Lampard at Goodison Park just before Marsch was sacked by Leeds United last week after a dreadful run of results in the Premier League which saw them languishing in the relegation places.

The Whites have scrambled around to make an appointment and have been courting the likes of Carlos Corberan, Andoni Iraola and Arne Slot but they have all decided to stay at West Bromwich Albion, Rayo Vallecano and Feyenoord respectively.

The Leeds United board are currently receiving backlash and much scrutiny for their failure to acquire a replacement quickly and Bridges believes Dyche could have been the man for Leeds.

Speaking on the GegenPod [15 February], he said: “I’m still in the wilderness here, I’m hoping the right decision comes from this and they get the right man, but I think Leeds United missed a trick in missing out on Sean Dyche, just to give them some lift and some boost.

“Not that I enjoy watching his tactics, mind! I’ve said that about Burnley when he was there, I told you I wouldn’t watch them, but it’s a massive few weeks coming up.!

Missed opportunities

The pressure is mounting on Victor Orta and co to find a suitable replacement for Marsch at Leeds United and the search has been less than impressive so far.

The fact that they have been rejected by all of their top targets so far certainly isn’t breeding any encouragement amongst the club’s supporters, which has led to much criticism and scrutiny which is warranted.

Who Andrea Radrizzani and Orta turn to now is so unclear, and they certainly missed an opportunity to appoint a manager who has defied all the odds before in Dyche.

Yes, his style would not have been pleasing on the eye, but the work ethic, organisation and spirit he provides his team could have been a huge bonus at Elland Road. Whether the club will be made to regret that decision remains to be seen, but Everton have been handed a huge boost in their own survival hopes by bringing in Dyche.
