Leeds United: Shift in manager strategy from board after stumbling blocks faced

Leeds Live journalist Beren Cross has admitted that the Leeds United board have had a “shift in strategy” following stumbling blocks faced in their managerial hunt.

Leeds United still remain without a manager since the sacking of Jesse Marsch last week following the club’s 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest.

Cross alluded to the fact that former Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder is now the frontrunner to take the Elland Road job and questions over his potential appointment will be answered in due course.

“It remains to be seen if Schreuder does prove to be the next appointment, but a lot of talking can be done via the telephone and Zoom. He’s unlikely to be at Elland Road without there being legs in this move,” as quoted by Leeds Live. (13 February)

“If he is hired, questions will be answered in due course, but at the outset, it’s fair to look at the stumbling blocks with the first targets Leeds had and see a shift in the strategy from the boardroom. Andoni Iraola increasingly sounds like the first choice Leeds wanted, but his boss is not playing ball.”

Rash decision?

The shift in strategy has been clear from the Leeds United board after missing out on numerous “first choice” targets in their search for a new manager.

Schreuder isn’t the kind of appointment that will bring a heap load of courage to West Yorkshire and it all just seems a bit rushed by Victor Orta and co.

It’s a decision that seems to be trying to save a bit of face before the must-win clash against Everton and one which could wreak even more havoc on the Whites Premier League campaign.

In all fairness, Schreuder, if appointed, deserves a fair crack at things to prove every naysayer wrong, but with zero Premier League experience and one big managerial fail to his name, it’s tough to get excited.

Some will argue Leeds United can’t be precious in their manager appointment now the clock is rapidly ticking, however, the failings of the hierarchy haven’t helped matters by dragging this on.
