Sheffield Wednesday ready transfer with Leeds United player trial spotted

Leeds United strengthened their grip on automatic promotion with a 2-1 victory over Preston on Saturday.

Should Leeds clinch promotion, the West Yorkshire giants will need to enjoy a successful summer transfer window to survive in the Premier League next term.

But while Daniel Farke will look to make new additions this summer, Elland Road will also witness several outgoings in the transfer window.

Leeds goalkeeper on trial with Sheffield Wednesday

The Whites have had issues between the sticks this term, with Illan Meslier making several errors and recently being dropped in favour of Karl Darlow.

Meanwhile, according to the Sheffield Star, Leeds academy goalkeeper Owen Grainger is currently on trial with Sheffield Wednesday and featured for the Owls Under-21s against Brentford on Monday.

As per The Star, the 17-year-old’s contract at Elland Road is set to expire in the coming months, meaning he could soon join Danny Rohl’s men on a free transfer.

Grainger has featured on Leeds’ bench in Premier League 2 this season and has also spent time on loan with Northern Premier League outfit Bridlington Town.

Leeds are set for promotion

After previously enduring a poor run of form, which included a defeat at relegation-threatened Portsmouth and three consecutive draws with Queens Park Rangers, Swansea, and Luton, Leeds have got themselves back on track with wins over Middlesbrough and Preston.

Leeds look set for promotion

The Whites’ newfound rich vein of form has nicely coincided with promotion rivals Sheffield United’s shocking run of three consecutive defeats.

Leeds now sit top of the Championship, level on points with second-place Burnley, but crucially five points above the third-place Blades.

Farke and Co should be able to maintain their momentum towards a spot in next season’s Premier League, while their next two fixtures see the Elland Road club take on Oxford and Stoke, who are both yet to secure their second-tier status.

By the time the Whites face Plymouth on the last day of the season, Argyle may already be relegated, while Farke’s men have a favourable run-in amid their quest for promotion.
