Leeds United set to swoop for West Ham United’s Sonny Perkins and Birmingham’s George Hall

Leeds United are preparing to make another two summer signings in academy talents Sonny Perkins and George Hall, Phil Hay reports in The Athletic.

The teenagers from West Ham and Birmingham respectively have been lined up to be added during the summer window, as the Thorp Arch investment continues at pace.

The Daily Mail reported on Wednesday (June 1) that the club were ready to bid £1million for midfielder Hall, and now young Hammers attacker Perkins looks set to join him.

The 18-year-old was named Premier League 2 player of the month in April and has made three senior appearances over the 2021-22 season for David Moyes, including as a late substitute against the Whites in January.

Hall, 17, featured twice in the Championship, while both are England under-18 internationals.

For the senior set up the club have already completed the signing of Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson, and are on the brink of following that up with a deal for teammate Rasmus Kristensen.

No slowing down

Immediately after the news that one summer signing was set to become two, that number appears to be about to double again with the capture of a pair of young talents.

The club aren’t messing about in the summer window, having apparently learnt the lesson from a barren January.

It is also possible that discussions with Jesse Marsch over who can be brought in are somewhat more straight forward than with the enigmatic Marcelo Bielsa.

Either way, fans will be pleased to see that there has been no delay in getting to work on strengthening the side at both senior and academy levels as they look to improve on what was a dreadful previous campaign.

Things have so far shaped up very well for the club in terms of incomings, although the spectre of potential high-profile outgoings continues to hang over every move.

Bringing in teenage talents should be encouraging but it will be necessary for those that show the requisite quality to be given opportunities in the first team, considering it took far longer than expected for the striking berth to be handed to Joe Gelhardt after injuries to multiple teammates, and Cody Drameh doesn’t appear to be in line to get his chance at right-back with the impending capture of Kristensen.

In other Leeds United news, the first signing of the window was drawing some rave reviews after his starring role in a victory on international duty Wednesday night.
