Leeds United set to sign Weston McKennie from Juventus barring any 'last-minute hitches'

Leeds United are set to sign Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie barring any “last-minute hitches”, according to 90min Italy.

According to Calciomercato (25 January), the 24-year-old’s agent has jetted into the UK to hold direct talks with the Leeds hierarchy ahead of his switch to Elland Road.

90min now suggest (25 January) a move is close to completion with McKennie keen to make the switch to Elland Road.

“Barring last-minute hitches, McKennie will make his way to the Premier League. He has already given his consent to the transfer,” wrote 90min.

“Before getting on the plane that will take him to England, however, he must wait for Leeds to find an economic agreement with Juventus.”

McKennie is a midfielder who has been highly sought after by a number of Premier League and European clubs, so this would be an impressive deal for the Yorkshire side to pull off. He’s also still relatively young and would be the ideal partner for Tyler Adams in the centre of midfield.

Marc Roca has done well since his arrival at Elland Road, but competition is certainly required in the centre of the pitch and signing another USA international is certainly a statement of intent from the board and Jesse Marsch.

A defensive midfield duo of McKennie and Adams is a tantalising prospect and would be the perfect partnership to aid Marsch’s aggressive and front-footed football.

With under a week left in the transfer window, it’s now up to the club to ensure they leave no stone unturned when it comes to their business. Leeds are in a good place at the moment, but some fine-tuning could make life a whole lot easier when it comes to avoiding relegation.
