Leeds United set to complete Bamba Dieng and Dan James moves, double 'here we go' - Fabrizio Romano

Leeds United are now set to complete a major incoming and outgoing deal simultaneously on transfer deadline day, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The €10million signing of Bamba Dieng will finally give the Whites the extra option at striker that fans have been crying out for all summer at the very last.

While the loan exit to Fulham of Dan James, a much more surprising late development, is also now in line to be sealed at the same time.

Writing on his personal Twitter account on Thursday afternoon (1 September) Romano said: “Bamba Dieng to Leeds, Dan James to Fulham: here we go! Both deals are almost done, set to be completed.

“Bamba Dieng will join Leeds from OM on €10m package bid; Dan James will join Fulham on loan from Leeds.”

Deadline day surprises

United have been one of the most active players in the transfer market all summer, with star men leaving and a whole host of new arrivals coming through the doors at Thorp Arch.

That activity has now continued right down to the wire with these two late deals looking likely to bookend the club’s business right at the last.

While the arrival of Dieng, a highly rated young attacker from Ligue 1, for an affordably low amount may suggest that the club have been vindicated in waiting until late to fill the gap up top, fans might also ask why this deal couldn’t have been done weeks ago.

Ultimately, there is now to be another exciting option to cover for the injuries that are racked up as an Elland Road striker faster than anywhere else it seems, after Rodrigo was hurt in the draw with Everton (30 August) with Patrick Bamford only just returning.

The exit of James is harder to understand, as the late interest from Tottenham raised the possibility that he could be moved on for a fee of up to £20million, which there was a solid case for, but a loan move does little.

After the move for Cody Gakpo proved unsuccessful it feels like as fast as the club finally rounded out their options at striker they’ve left themselves short out wide.

Dieng however is a versatile forward and he may be considered as cover across the front line after a frantic deadline day.

In other Leeds United news, the club are in the mix for an in-demand attacker who wants out in Europe.
