Leeds United set to bank at least £18m from Diego Llorente AS Roma deal
Leeds United are set to bank at least £18million from AS Roma’s loan-to-buy deal for Diego Llorente, according to The Athletic’s Phil Hay.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano shared the surprising transfer news on 30 January that AS Roma were closing in on a deal for the Leeds United defender.
Now, Hay is reporting that the Whites are set to recoup at least the fee they paid for Llorente back in 2020, something that will be music to the ears of those at Elland Road.
“As per Italian media, Diego Llorente set to sign for Roma,” said Hay on Twitter. (30 January, 9:45 AM)
“Loan to the end of the season with obligation which will see Leeds recoup at least the £18m they paid for him in 2020.”

Fantastic business.
Just when you were thinking the January transfer window couldn’t get any better for Leeds United, this fantastic bit of business drops out of nowhere.
So this was the Leeds United masterplan in handing Llorente a new contract all along? Well, you had us all fooled with this one.
Recouping at least £18m for the defender will go down a treat and with McKennie nearing his arrival is this the best transfer window Leeds have ever had?
Potentially, It’s definitely the best Whites have seen for quite a while anyway and brings a lot of hope and aspirations along with it.
It seems the club are set on their central defenders with Max Wober coming in and now youngster Diogo Monteiro to fill the void Llorente is leaving.
What have Roma seen in Llorente agreeing to this wild deal? No one is quite sure at the moment, but one thing is for certain, fans of the Whites will be pretty pleased with this one.
